The surrounding high cliffs also create a stunning backdrop for the beach. This beach is perfect for families and makes a great place to hang out and relax. It’s also a beautiful place to watch the sunset.

Praia da Camilo
Praia da Camilo is another beautiful beach. Don’t get discouraged by the 200 steps you have to climb down – once you get to the beach, it’s totally worth it! The beach is like a little hidden cove. This beach is known for its rock formations and sea caves. Exploring the sea caves is a popular activity here especially during low tide.
The water is calm and the beach even has a tunnel that leads to another part of the beach. The rock formations protect the beach against wind which is why the water is super calm so it’s perfect for relaxing, swimming, and kayaking. Meia Praia also serves as a departure point for various boat trips and excursions. You can explore Ponta de Piedade, sea caves and grottos along the coastline.
Ponta da Piedade
Ponta da Piedade has a special place in my heart. This is where I got engaged. You can read all about my engagement story here. Ponta da Piedade is a stunning natural landmark where you will find towering limestone cliffs, sea caves, grottos, and rock formations. It is one of the best places to visit in Algarve Portugal.
It has the most amazing cliffside views. There are several viewpoints along the top of the cliff where you will get panoramic views of the ocean and rock formations. You can also find walking trails and staircases along the cliff. This view is easily accessible and there is a free parking lot right next to it. You can also go on a boat tour to explore the grottos and rock archways.

Praia Dos Estudantes
Praia dos Estudantes is a small beach near the city center of Lagos. It translates to “Student Beach” and is known for its Roman style bridge right on the beach. Since the surrounding rocky cliffs shelter the beach from the wind, the water is usually very calm and perfect for swimming. However, the sand isn’t as as soft as other beaches since there are a lot of shells.
Praia dos Estudantes actually consists of two parts and there is a tunnel that connects both sides. One side is where you arrive on the beach and then you can walk through a tunnel to see the roman bridge. You can also walk to several beaches from here like Praia da Batata and Praia do Pinhão.
Sagres
Sagres is a town located at the southwestern tip of Portugal within the Algarve region. It is known for its amazing cliffside views and historical significance. During the 15th century, Prince Henry established a navigation school in Sagres which contributed to Portugal’s Age of Discovery.
Compared to the other towns in Algarve, Sagres has a more laid-back vibe and it’s perfect for people who are looking for a more secluded experience. It’s also a popular spot for surfing.
Best Things to Do in Sagres

If you are traveling to Sagres, you must visit Cabo de São Vicente. It is Europe’s most southwestern point and also known as “The End of the World“. Supposedly, back when Europeans thought the world was flat, they thought this place was where the world ended. The view is absolutely incredible.
This is also home to the Cabo de São Vicente lighthouse which is one of the most powerful lighthouses in Europe. The lighthouse has been in operation since the 19th century. Visitors can explore the paths and walking trails around the area where you will get panoramic viewpoints of the ocean. There is also a visitor center that provides information about the cape’s history, geology, and biodiversity. I do recommend bringing a sweater or jacket because it can get super windy.

One of the coolest things to do in Algarve is visit the Benagil Cave. It is one of the most famous and stunning sea caves in Algarve. The cave was naturally formed through erosion by the sea and wind on the cliffs along the Algarve coast. This resulted in a large sea cave with an opening at the top. This unique dome structure with an open ceiling is one of the most distinctive features of the Benagil Cave.
You can only get to this cave by water. You can paddle (kayak or paddle board) or take a small boat tour to the cave. Taking a boat tour is the most popular option to experience it. You can book a boat tour from nearby coastal towns throughout Algarve. These tours leave from the beach and last 2-3 hours.
In addition to seeing the cave, you will also get to see other cool spots along the coast. I recommend booking an early tour to avoid the crowds! Please keep in mind that during the busiest times of the year like in August, the boat tours might not let you off the boat to explore the cave due to crowds.
If you choose to kayak to the cave, I recommend going with a tour group since the tides and currents change quickly. You can also drive to the cave, but you will only be able to view the cave from above – there is no way to get inside the cave by foot.
Algar Seco
Algar Seco is one of the most unique places in Algarve. It is a stunning coastal area that is known for its unique rock formations, sea caves, natural pools, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. And if you are adventurous, you should definitely add Algar Seco to your list for some cliff jumping! You can also go on boat tours to explore the sea caves.
One of the highlights of Algar Seco is the natural pools formed in the rocky landscapes. These pools are filled with crystal-clear water which are perfect for a refreshing dip!
