I was the type of person that would never pay for workout programs. I mean – why pay for an app or subscription service when you can most likely find free programs online. Then, Aaptiv reached out to me to try their app for thirty days and I decided to give it a try.
Let me start off explaining what Aaptiv is. Aaptiv is an audio based fitness app that’s basically like your very own personal trainer that follows you wherever you go. You get access to a variety of guided workouts and structured programs for cardio machines, strength training, yoga, and so much more. They are constantly adding new workouts and programs so it is impossible to get bored.
When you first sign up for the app, it asks you to enter a goal so they can find programs and workouts you’ll love. After you select your workout, all you have to do is put on your headphones and let their trainers guide you. Since the app is audio-based instruction, you don’t need to worry about staring at your screen. You can do these workouts at the gym, at home, on vacation, or anywhere.
During these thirty days, I really wanted to focus on areas that I struggle with at the gym: cardio and stretching. As many races as I’ve done in the past, I really hate running, especially on the treadmill haha. Even with listening to the best music or watching a show, running on a treadmill is still so boring. Two minutes feel like two hours and it’s hard to stay motivated when you are just counting down the seconds until you are done.
Aaptiv has a long list of treadmill workouts with creative names, like Pretty Fast Thing (endurance interval run with Michael Jackson music) and Can’t Stop the Feeling (high incline jog with Justin Timberlake music). There’s so much to choose from and you can easily filter based on level, duration, trainer, music, and more. Whether you want a quick 10 min sprint or a 45 minute light jog with intervals, there is something for everyone.
What I love most about these treadmill workouts is having the trainer’s guidance and motivation, while running to the beat of the tempo music. They help you stay focused and push you throughout the entire workout. They also give you cues to make sure you are running with correct form. It feels like you are in an actual studio following an instructor. When I was on the treadmill, I never thought “How much longer?” or “Is it over yet?” The trainers keep you so focused and they inspire you to never stop!
When the workouts are done, I like that you get a pop up notification of a stretching workout that they suggest for you. I always forget to stretch so I love that Aaptiv reminds you. They also have a long list of stretching workouts to choose from.
I was extremely impressed with Aaptiv. It is so easy to use and I get so excited to start new workouts. I love the energy of the trainers and how they are with you the entire time. After trying this app for thirty days, I can honestly say that I like the treadmill (never thought I would say those words! haha) I definitely want to try their race training programs when I sign up for my next race. In the beginning of this post, I said that I don’t like paying for workout apps, but Aaptiv is an exception! It is definitely worth it, especially since you can take it wherever you go. After these thirty days, I signed up to become an official member. If you would like to try Aaptiv for thirty days for free, sign up here. Let me know if you have any questions about the app!
