How to Mix Patterns

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about how to combine solid colors together. Now, for this post, I wanted to talk about how to mix prints. I feel like a lot of people get nervous mixing prints or are not sure which prints look good combined together. Believe it or not, mixing prints is easier than you think! Here are some of my simple tips in combining different patterns.

One helpful tip is to follow the same color scheme. See what colors the prints consist of. If the colors work well together, the combination of prints should work too. One of the prints I started combining together with other patterns was stripes. People consider stripes a neutral color so it is easy to combine them with other prints. It’s a perfect place to start when you start combining different prints. I love combining stripes with animal print, polka dots, and floral.

In this post, I combined my striped top with cute floral shorts. My top consists of white and navy, which paired great with my navy floral shorts. The combination of these two prints create a fun, cute, and trendy look. Instead of a basic white tee, the stripes add a unique touch to the outfit. I got this top from Old Navy and it is so comfy! It is definitely a staple item. I’ve worn it so many times this summer and I can see myself pairing it with a cozy cardigan in the fall.

What are your favorite prints to combine together?

  1. Very cute! I’m guilty of not mixing patterns often. But, in my closet, I have floral shorts and a striped tee. I’m putting them together next week!
